Did we learn much from this match?
The Footy Bogan learnt that the view from level 2 at Docklands is outstanding.
By dint of some accurate kicking, the Pies managed to turn into the first break with a small lead. They then let the match slip away over the next two quarters. It can be hard for supporters when some players are pulled out of the match as part of player management. Jeremy Howe and Jamie Elliott played no part after half time. The fans tempered their expectation of big marks.
The air had gone out of the Bogan's tires as the final quarter started, but his interest returned very quickly as Collingwood bridged the gap on the back of 2 super-goals.
It's still early days, but Hoskin-Elliott, Tom Phillips and Mayne caught the eye. It was pleasant to welcome Elliott back. Josh Daicos showed a bit. I'm not sure about Lynden Dunne; I'll wait and see.
The wrap
There used to be a preseason competition with a preseason premiere. Not any more: all we have are practice matches. That 16,521 souls turned up on a Thursday night surely says something - perhaps that Melburnians are nuts; or that they are addicted to footy.
